I met up with Grace and Brady yesterday on the University of Arkansas campus yesterday for some chilly windy engagements. We are already booked for their September wedding in Texas but we shot their engagements with them anyways!!!! We had a lot of fun battling the wind, walking all over campus, making memories and chatting with them! The two met while both being in the Razorback Marching Band. Grace is working on her Masters for business and Brady graduated from the U of A with an Electrical Engineering degree. They plan on getting married in Texas, where she’s from, and heading back home (here!!!!) :) after all the celebrations.
Congratulations you two! We wish you many many happy years together! Here’s part 1 of their engagements!

Kate and Patrick met at the University of Maine and have been together for 7 years. They will be getting married back in Maine next year. They moved to our good old state to follow Patrick’s job while he works for a WalMart vendor. Either way we are glad you are here! I’m so glad that I had the opportunity to capture their beautiful engagements for them! I know they already have a photographer but maybe they’ll consider sending me to Maine? I’ve never been past Philadelphia so wouldn’t that be nice?!?!?! :) Ok I’m done dreaming but just keep that in mind if you are reading this Kate and Patrick! ;) We met up at Prairie Creek Marina for some fun nautical inspired shots. The weather was very beautiful as was the sun! Their outfits were perfect…..*small tip: sending what you plan on wearing to your photographer really helps them get an idea of where to shoot or what your style is and makes your images so much more! Kate is so beautiful…… I’m pretty sure I could photograph her all day long and never get tired of it! Congratulations you two and thanks for the opportunity to capture some beautiful shots and enjoy your engagement!

These were so much fun! I love to shoot “styled” shoots!
Enjoy!

We’re still chuggin along over here at Erika Dotson Photography! It’s been such a great year with many wonderful new clients! We are so blessed to have such amazing people choose us to be their special photographer! It’s been a pleasure getting to know you and work along side you! THANKS! :)
Here’s some of the things we’ve been working on!

Yep you should recognize that gal in the red scarf…Donnally…..and her gorgeous family! Had the pleasure to visit my hometown for a few hours as I drove down to Mena for their family portrait session! They have such a beautiful home with lovely surroundings, what a treat it was to shoot there!

This is Craig, we went out for part two of his senior portraits to Lake Fayetteville. I love that spot! He’s a Springdale Senior, in case you missed it the first time around! Congratulations….again! :)

Here’s Mr. Jack with his mommy and daddy. I traded out some babysitting time with this family! What a great plan and we’re both happy with what we got! :) Dusty and Stephanie have been my hubby’s friends for years so I adopted them too…..I’ll admit they are good company! :) Thanks guys!

Then the Crees siblings! This is Sam. We know each other from high school. Sam and his sisters wanted to give their parents a meaningful gift this year so they booked us for a sibling session! I love that their parents have no idea! What a GREAT gift idea!!!
Well that’s what we’ve been working on! :)
Enjoy!

Amber and Alan were such a beautiful couple. From the very beginning I could tell how much Alan adored her! So sweet! They were married at the Dwelling Place in Fayetteville and they held their reception at the amazing Fayetteville Town Center with pretty rentals from Festivities to provide the atmosphere. We got to work with some amazing vendors at their wedding too!
Jessica Kersey from Finishing Touch Event Design was their awesome coordinator!!!
Videography provided by James Michael Smith
Florals were purchased from Flowerama (Bentonville) and arranged by the mother of the groom
Catered by the Event Group
Cake was created by the talented Shelby Lynn’s Cake Shoppe
They danced to the tunes of DJ Derrick
And Pinnacle Limo Services provided them a pretty sweet ride from the ceremony to the reception
Let’s see those pictures!!! We’ll start you off with all the pretty details.

I loved this shot of all the hands helping her get her dress on

Donnally captured this shot great! I imagine Alan and his really great brother were having a little heart to heart right before the ceremony!

Of course if there’s a wedding on a gameday you’d expect the groomsmen to be picking up the highlights on their phones!

Jon took the guys outside for some group shots and I just love this one……look close!

Alan looks like he’s concentrating before the big reveal at their first look.

Amber’s already emotional.

I’m so glad I was able to capture this moment. Having a first look has many benefits but as simple as it may be calming each other down before hand is one of them. Amber and Alan decided to exchange their personal vows during their first look and the traditional vows would be exchanged at the ceremony. What a great personal touch!

You’re looking at Mr. and Mrs. Nichols!

We headed outside to catch the last of the pretty light right at sunset. Alan looks so happy with his beautiful bride!

Jon caught this shot for us. The ambient lighting and the movement is lovely.

Just another reason I recommend hiring two shooters on your wedding day…..while Jon captured the photo above I was able to sneak in and catch what is probably my favorite shot of the night from a completely different angle!

Love it!

Their guests send them off to celebrate on their honeymoon!
Congratulations Amber and Alan!
Enjoy!

Meet Caleb……he’s two…..

This was the start of our session I knew we were in for some great pictures! :)

Com’on mom no one likes “time out”!!!!

Caleb just turned two and we headed out for a family session along with the intention of capturing a few of him by himself…….
These are just some outtakes that I couldn’t resist sharing! Personally I think it’s a cute way to look back on this time of his life, I know it may not be picture perfect but pictures are all about remembering and this is Caleb. Don’t you worry I did get several “good” shots of him smiling and having fun too! :) Gotta please mom you know!
Enjoy!

The idea of Saturday Steal is pretty much just to give you (our fab readers) some awesome ideas! :) I sure hope you enjoy!
I think I’ll focus on Fall Weddings since it is just right around the corner! :)

I just love when brides show up with bouquets like this with all the different colors and textures!
This bouquet takes a cue from the season and is a fragrant mix of white majolica roses, Scabiosa, sage, basil, rosemary, and lily of the valley.

MMMMmmmmmm…….Carmel apples! Seriously! Love it!
Chocolate- and caramel-dipped apples are set out in large copper kettles for departing guests to take with them at the end of the evening.

Totally love this idea, especially for all our southern weddings around here! What a great option rather then renting a bunch of white chairs! Prob cheaper too!
Guests at this fall wedding sit on hay bails decorated with wildflowers from a friend’s farm in French flower pails.

What a cool twist on the bride’s entrance! If you really have a southern themed wedding this is the way to go!
For this September wedding, the bride makes her entrance on farm owner’s hay wagon.

What a simple but beautiful cake!
Two tiers of the cake, by Elizabeth Loudon, are the mother of the bride’s chocolate cake recipe. Set on a stand trimmed with felt, the confection is covered with bittersweet chocolate frosting and dressed with roses, fiddleheads, and sandersonia.

I pretty much just planned your whole country themed fall wedding for you! :)
Enjoy!

I just love anything Martha Stewart does!!! She’s amazing! So Saturday’s I decided to go find something cool and totally steal it, write what I think about it, and let you go check it out! :)
Oh I’m a huge DIY (do it yourself) fan!!! Read more

I’ve seen old photos of parents’ wedding days more and more at recent weddings so I thought I’d add to that with something a bit more visually interesting than frames sitting on a table. Read more.

Linens are expensive and boring, so try out some wrapping paper! Pretty sure you could make everything way more customized! Read more.

I just want to emphasize how much the tiny details really do matter! This is just an ordinary drink station but look how adorable it is with the right touches!!! Read more.

Enjoy!
